MISHA:
Major devestation! How can I possibly say anything about any episode I've seen without getting all spoilery on yoo? I've only been watching Buffy for one season (though I've gotten tapes out of the library of some older eps), and therefore, all the stuff I can talk about, you haven't even seen yet! Lurking for a year, eh? Boy do I feel like the new kid in the neighborhood.
I probably would have done the same, but I have one glaring fault- I always start talking before I have anything to say...

notxander... I have been here for about a year, lurking in the background and making the occasional post. I'm from Australia and I'm not up on all the lingo and do have the pleasure of attending the bronzer parties etc. Feeling a bit left out too. Another prob is that we are way behind in the eps. Bummer.

ALLYSON:
I know what you are going through. It's been almost four weeks for me, and the only thing standing between me and insanity is the nicotine patch I broke down and started wearing. This is probably the twenty third time I've quit smoking, and this time has to stick, because my daughter just turned one year old a month ago. I think it's not to late for her to never have to think of her father as a smoker. I am not looking forward to one month from now, when I quit using the patch, but I'm hoping it will be easier, since I will have gotten out of the habit of lighting up. I'm really hoping...
Here's a quick tip- when you get the crave, take three deep breaths, as deep as you can, and think to yourself;"Hey, this air doesn't taste like smoke! Cool!" The deep breaths are sometimes what your body craves more than the cigarettes. A lot of smokers, the only time they take a deep breath is when they're dragging. If that doesn't work, take three deep breaths and think;" Notxander is full of crap- where are the brownies?"
Stick with it, babe, you're not alone.

newfan: Where ya goin'?
Get back here! Never get to hang
out anymore...

white wings (and Fury,
this is a message in a bottle):
The bet goes badly. Detoxing off
of nicotine is so freakin' HARD.
I wish i had become addicted to
something easier to quit, like
heroin. Went for a walk and then
sat on the roof with the famous
Polgara for awhile. It's
hard to shake, but I'm winning
the battle. Drinking lots of
water, working out (although, we
just about killed a pan of
brownies, tonight, wince) feeling
grouchy, but better.

Bottom line, Fury better put that
c-note in a safe place, because i
am going to WIN this battle.

Polgara says that the
people who work for big tobacco
wouldn't be making so much money
if they didn't do a damn fine job
of making these cancer sticks so
damn addictive. Everytime i say,
"I would KILL for a cigarette,"
she says, "No, you want to KILL
the chemist who made those evil
sticks so freakin' ADDICTIVE."

Yeah, everytime i cheat,
everytime i fall off the horse i
go through a tremendous amount of
self-hatred. I hate the way my
curtains and rug and clothes
smell like smoke. I hate the way
my lips, which i used to think
were my best feature, are getting
those little wrinkles around the
edges. I hate that i can't kiss
anyone without feeling completely
self-conscious.

Tomorrow's another day, it's only
been a week. By week two, I'm
hoping to lose the crutch.

Discouraged? Nah. I'm strong, i
like to believe. The guy who
made these things so freakin'
addictive hasn't met the likes of
an iron-clad bitch like me...

Thoin is up late and on late and wasn't going to post...but then she scrolled to see who got Fifth...

Cairo, in case you ever scroll for this...that Fifth is YOURS kid. Treat it well. You sound caring and wise enough to raise it well. As for being a Slayer, remember when the Watchers Council came and Buffy made that speech about how everyone was telling her how insignificant she was, mainly because she really had all the power? Well, it's like that. I think people tell you what you can't be, because they're really sort of afraid that you CAN. Don't listen. Don't hate, either, because that just hurts you. But when they tell you that you can't (be a Slayer or a real person), that's when you smile, because what they're really telling you is that they are afraid that you ARE. It's actually quite a compliment. And I wouldn't say you're "half-black" I think you got double of BOTH. Nice deal. And I grew up with foster parents. It was always confusing explaining to people that these weren't my real parents, but that they really WERE my "real" parents. My foster father is STILL my Dad. I wouldn't have any other.

As for the Fifth, name it, love it and for Joss' sake, don't feed it chocolate!!! (But do bring it by to visit, please?)

As for Irene Adler and Caspain, should they scroll...I SAW THAT!!! That was body-part suckage if ever I saw it! Caspian, BEHAVE!!!

Grrrr...

Anyway, I'm audi, gonna TRY to get some sleep tonight...

Night all!

slayerdaddy - That kind of coyote? That sounds interesting, should you ever wish to tell it. Assuming it can be told without harming any horses. *g*

Amberlynne - Actually, this was crocheting, which I don't enjoy quite as much. But yes, 6 cute 1-RL egg sized Easter Baskets made of pastel yarns with little shiny threads, fluffy rims, and a nice woven effect, all delivered to my parents for use as decorations, or to give to others with children as needed. Only failure was that I put what I thought was a large hollow egg of Cadbury's dark chocolate in one for my father (he's a dark chocolate fan, where I like milk chocolate, and Mother is sadly allergic to all of them), and it turned out to be milk, and he was sad. *g*

IreneAdler - Yes, we are. I'm just not certain what. He's a slippery one, he is, and he knows how to pull our strings. Now if we could just get him entangled in them ... *g*

Allyson - It's good to see you here. I hated to see you sounding discouraged the other day. How is the bet going? You CAN do it. :-)

I must be off to bed. Good night.

I just read Cairo's
heartbreaking post.
SarahNicole, copy and
paste this page, babe.

All of you, who were so amazingly
kind to Cairo, have my
undying respect. I bow before
your kindness.

Rye, Penlind Fine child
you have, there. Good job. You
tell her she has hundreds of
Bronzers here who will listen,
encourage, and go to the mat for
her...

Yes, she CAN be a Slayer.
Vampires and demons are just an
allegory for the cruelty and
injustice that are very real in
our world, and, as far as we have
seen, White is just a
circumstance. We've seen three
Black slayers, an Asian slayer,
and two White slayers. The point
is, they're all Grrrls. We have
quite a few Slayers on this
board, lawyers who have done
pro-bono work in battered women's
shelters, civil rights
consultants, nurses and doctors,
teachers, and hundreds more who
have dedicated large portions of
their lives to various charities.
Yup, she sure can be a Slayer. I
think she already is one.

LenS - I stand corrected with your point(s) re: Hollywood and religious movies. I'm not a big Charlton Heston fan so I doubt I'll ever watch The Ten Commandments; Yul Brynner would be worth watching, though.

As for Star Trek, I see nothing Marxist with the Prime Directive. Look at it this way - what would be different in the world today were the Europeans to have followed such an enlightened philosophy when they colonised America and divided up Africa and South America? Would there be the mess in Africa today if the Europeans had left the African cultures to develop on their own? What about America and the Indians? The Prime Directive was/is one of the most important pieces of policy to have ever been developed; it shatters the myth that any technologically advanced civilisation would know better how to run a society than the locals.

wolfguard; BCangel - there is one writer I can think of who could out-horror Joss - Clive Barker. I would love to see him write an eppy or three of Buffy and/or Angel; a Slayer vs. Cenobites would be very entertaining.

Juggling, you know, is extremely strenuous. As is walking on stilts and riding a unicycle. But remember that this Board is not moderated, and there are people who come here to cause trouble, and it isn't always a good thing for someone so young to see. It is wise to be careful about when she comes and to whom she posts.

Algerina - *grimly* A certain someone has been inspired to naughtiness by the success of Angel Come Home. Like the lady handing out toothbrushes in Halloween, he must be stopped! ;-)

Plaintive cry to an unfeeling universe - why is it so hard to take clothes from the dryer? And there's another load done.

Cairo Hi! I'm not going to repeat what everyone else said, they were right and you should listen to them. I used to get picked on when I was little because I am half Cherokee. I'm really old and when I was little it wasn't cool to be an "Indian". Not like today.

It's been my experience that people who pick on other people are really feeling bad about themselves and that quite often they are actually jealous of the person they are picking on. Jealous that the person (you) has something that they(your neighbor) are missing. It sounds like you have wonderful a wonderful family, perhaps that is the source of their jealousy. HUGS

: Exactly. I mean, when you compare the continuity problems Buffy has to XF -- it's not even close. Hell, at least Joss tries to keep up with everything. I'm not impressed with CC at all...from what I hear he's very full of himself.

ducky: Yeah, that Mulder line was the best in the ep. But I just did not appreciate at all how Mulder's supposed to be dying of a brain thingy (or something)...so that gave them a story for a little while...but the second Mulder came back CC didn't want to have to worry about it so Mulder was miraculously cured. Give me a break.

Heya carl! Yeah, the XF story just isn't flowing. I enjoyed seeing the Mulder-Scully-Doggett interaction but that's about it.

NuPhalanx: Actually, I was referring to the fact that Hollywood makes many films with the Devil or Satan in them (usually as CGI opponents for the hero to rumble with) than they do films about religion. I wasn't referring to religious orthodoxy nor condemning films for heresy or blasphemy. I was mocking NBC for taking a rich source of human stories like the Bible and turning it into a bad soap opera.

Also, movies like "The Last Temptation of Christ" are few and far between, especially when compared to the first half of the 20th century. Scorsese's film is from 13 years ago and it was an interesting view, but it was the rare Hollywood film that dealt with religion seriously.

I like the music in "Jesus Christ Superstar", but I like Webber's music in almost everything.

Regarding Star Trek, we obviously are in different "universes" since I liked DS9 the best of the ST series. Probably because I find the Prime Directive to be the most arrogant and unworkable concept in Sci-Fi (sort of like Marxism). Of course, if Gene's health hadn't failed, then STNG would never have reached seven years nor would the successor series. Ratings and fan approval (2nd season forward) went up drastically after he stopped running the shows. I know that I came very close to stopping my viewing of the series after the first season. But then I only watched TOS because there was no other options before PBS imported Dr. Who in the late 1970's. To be honest, I probably won't even check out the next series in the fall. Voyager and the last movie left such a bad taste in my mouth (and Whedon and JM Stracyzinski spoiled me).

Oh well, I need to get some sleep and back on a normal schedule this week. Have a great week! ;-)

Bronzers. I have here on my lap a very tired little girl with a large smile on her face. She has spent the afternoon and evening refusing to tell her old Da what has been bothering her. I have finally learned from her posting and your wonderful responses. Pagan has told me of each of you, from the mighty Old One to the wise Wolfguard. She had described you as a modern pantheon, and you really should ask her of her theories on that sometime. St.Germain and Newfan I cannot thank you enough for your kindness to my daughter (She has fallen asleep, so I fear I am typing one handed at the moment). Cairo has her mother's strength, even if they do not share the same blood. Odd how others judge us on the superficial, isn't it? As an Irishman, I have heard every drinking joke in existence, and yet have never had a drop of alcohol. Cario will be told her entire life why she does not fit, but aren't we all. Reading her question, the thing that was troubling was our neighbor's attempt to steal her dream of being a slayer. I'm afraid I have only watched a few of the shows, but as a role model, she has only given my child courage, determination, and a clear deMarcation of good and evil. Thank you for allowing a child her dreams. I am running off your comments so that she may keep them in her room. Her Mum is home very late tomorrow night and I know she will be coming on to thank you herself. Now I have to get this one off to bed. From a father who's heart is feeling a bit ragged, thank you again.

Cirrus Kain says:
(Sun Apr 8 20:20:11 2001 209.178.134.122)
Ooo. Fun quizzy-ness.

1.) Do you think Cordelia should have a love interest?

Not at all. I think by not persuing a relationship, Cordelia is showing growth as a character since Buffy. She's developing into a very strong, stable, and capable woman, who doesn't need a man in to take care of her.

It also would complicate things considerably more than they should be for her.

2.) In your opinion BtVS and Angel are appropriate for what age group?

Buffy and Angel are, I think, appropiate for all age groups. The fantasy of vampires and good vs. evil appeals to people of all ages. And the issues dealt with in the show are real life issues (homosexuality, loss of a loved one, etc) that everyone should be aware of.

Maybe cut some of the MASSIVE SOFTCORE PORN scenes, and there's your 11-and-below audiance. =)

2.) A distinguishing feature of BtVS has been its "snappy" dialogue. In your opinion is the delivery, on occasion, too fast; is the enunciation, on occasion, too indistinct?

God, I can't even tell anymore. Buffy has shaped so much of the dialogue around here that it all pretty much sounds like what we've been saying.

3.) Do you think Angel approves of Riley for Buffy?

I think he would if he thought Buffy was happy with him. Riley took care of her and tried to give her everything she wanted. I think Angel disapproved in the end only because he could see, like Riley could, that Buffy didn't really FEEL it with him.

4.) Since the Initiative has set the precedent, and considering the massive firepower available "over the counter" in the US, Why don't the Scoobies and the Batpack use guns?

They're smarter than that. Too much potential risk to one of their own.

Besides, I thought the Batpack DID use guns...

5.) Considering only subtext (body language, attitude, implications, voice tone, etc.), who possesses more "mystical power"? Willow or Tara?

Definately Tara. Sometimes I get the feeling she's afraid of herself, even after that whole "Family" thing was cleared up. I think she has only a vague grasp of her full potential.

6.) Considering only transcript, black letter text, who possesses more "mystical power", Willow or Tara?

Willow has more that she's willing to put to use.

7.) Do you think that BtVS is a "new departure" in TV and what is your opinion about it?

I couldn't even begin to answer that

8.) What is your opinion about tattoos on women? What is your opinion about tattoos on men?

Mmm.... Faith...

Chicks with tats are sexy. Guys... it depends on how they carry them. Guys with bodies covered in tattoos are posturing asses.

9.) Considering that Buffy "moved on" and developed a relationship with Riley, shouldn't Angel "move on" and develop a relationship in LA.

I think it would be considerably more difficult for Angel to move on, because he's been around for a lot longer than Buffy and doesn't have much of life left to explore. Where Buffy is young and sees opportunities ahead, Angel knows that for decades there may be nothing that touches your heart like that again.

*prays she didn't drop and tags...*

We've been shown slayers of all races in flashbacks on the show. Cairo - {{{hugs}}} The naighbor kid is so wrong. In fact, if you watch the second season, you'll see that there was a black slayer. Her name was Kendra and she and Buffy worked together. And we know that there was a Chinese girl who was the slayer. So you see? Slayers come in all races. And your mum is right about families. God made you a family. If you had to be related by blood, how would your mom and dad be family? They are related. When they married, they became a family. And when you were all adopted, you became a family, too. I have two cousins who are adopted, and they are no less my cousins than the others. Adopted children are special because someone loves them enough to choose them, whereas children that are born into a family you have to take because you don't have a choice. Does that make sense?

Good Evening Irene Adler

friday,

How many frogs? Seek the book, Why Flip a Coin?. The author, Lewis (?), shows you the way to calculate the odds on that question. It's an early chapter. :)

Algerina,

I believe I did have it bronzed. Unfortunately, a diskette has become entrapped in my notebook. It's causing problems with accessing all my files.

Cry Fowl! Let loose the duck of war! *g*

Prue: Do you have anything for me to do?
Piper: I thought you were doing nothing.
Prue: I'm finished.
Piper: You can't finish doing nothing.
Prue: Then how do you know when you're done?

Charmed

Richard: I was on long distance.
Lorelai: God?
Richard: London.
Lorelai: God lives in London.
Richard: My mother.
Lorelai: God is a woman?
Richard: Lorelai.
Lorelai: And related?
Richard: Lorelai.
Lorelai: This is so cool. I'm totally going to ask for favors!
Richard: Make her stop.
Rory: Oh if I could.

The Gilmore Girls

Giles: Are there any jellies?
Buffy: You like jellies?
Giles: I always have jelly. Aren't I the one who says, add jelly to the mix.
Willow: We're sorry (beat) Buffy had three.

The Zeppo

Final scroll...

Good Night to All

Seska (the Watcher-in Training Thank You Here is yesterday's survey in case anyone missed it. Quiz from unmixything originally posted Saturday, 4/7/01from 1600 to 2400 Pacific Time US (Expurgated version)

1.) What was your first impression or earliest opinion of BtVS? For example, my first reaction was amazement at the marvelous chemistry among the characters. One of the best casting jobs ever.

2.) What character puzzles you the most? (Dawn is too easy.) . For example the character that I simply cannot fathom is Xander. His motivation and direction simply elude me.

3) How many times, in casual conversation, have you mentioned that Buffy is a good show and had people look at you like you are crazy.

4.)(Expurgated.)

5.) Do you think Darla can sing? She has an excellent small voice.

6.) Do you think the show should avoid the more R rated scenes? (Explicit much?)

7.) If you were syndicating the show, what time slot would you put it in?

8.) Describe Buffy's social niche in Sunnydale in 50 words or less. For example (Sunnydale is a feudal society and Buffy is a warlord or "Warrior Princess", whose main focus is "defense of the realm".

9.) Why doesn't Cordelia have a social life outside of the Batpack?

10.) Why isn't Angel a (cradle robbing, dirty old, -creature-of-the-night) who should be ashamed of him self.

Sarah's carl: LOL. you're right. it does say "Prinze" but i've been told that there's only one of him and our "friend" has him already. she might think i'm soliciting him or something... ;)

SpookymypartnerincrimeMagoo!!!!!! unfortunately, AIM is not co-operating with me. ACK!!! i hate it when that happens. and to think that i only use it once in a blue moon. how did your thing go on Friday? kick some booty, did you? btw, you're going to be around the TO PBFP weekend, right? tell me NO and i'll seek my Nana on you

Old One: hello there my dear near neighbour but soon to be not so near neighbour. i hope all is well with you and the girls. as for the frogs, not that many really. i realized that i'm not getting any younger and the frogs are getting fewer. i've been listening to different croaks but can't find one that my ears would appreciate hearing for a long time. perhaps i'm in the wrong swamp?

friday

"i've realized that there are many frogs who don't turn into anything resembling a Prince after you've kissed them. sad, isn't?"

Cairo: You don't know me yet but I'm a friend of your mom's. Tell your friend that your mom is right, color doesn't matter, and a half-black girl can be anything she wants, including The Slayer. In fact, tell her that The First Slayer was black. And if she still doesn't believe you, then pity her her ignorance. Good Luck!

LenS Survey for Sunday 4-8-01 by unmixything (repost from 1200 to 1600). Thank you for your encouragement advise is always welcome to me. The point about the question was well taken. I actually find this posting board medium rather difficult on a practical level. I am surprised at how many responses the survey had and at how much I enjoyed reading them. This is an amazing group of people. I don't know if you bothered to go through all the responses but all were interesting, many were hilarious, and more than a few taught me something about BtVS that I hadn't even been aware of though I have probably seen each episode 4 or 5 times.

1.) Do you think Cordelia should have a love interest?

2.) In your opinion BtVS and Angel are appropriate for what age group?

2.) A distinguishing feature of BtVS has been its "snappy" dialogue. In your opinion is the delivery, on occasion, too fast; is the enunciation, on occasion, too indistinct?

3.) Do you think Angel approves of Riley for Buffy?

4.) Since the Initiative has set the precedent, and considering the massive firepower available "over the counter" in the US, Why don't the Scoobies and the Batpack use guns?

5.) Considering only subtext (body language, attitude, implications, voice tone, etc.), who possesses more "mystical power"? Willow or Tara?

6.) Considering only transcript, black letter text, who possesses more "mystical power", Willow or Tara?

7.) Do you think that BtVS is a "new departure" in TV and what is your opinion about it?

8.) What is your opinion about tattoos on women? What is your opinion about tattoos on men?

9.) Considering that Buffy "moved on" and developed a relationship with Riley, shouldn't Angel "move on" and develop a relationship in LA.

Thank goodness it's you ST. Germain. I've been watching for you forever. I'm sorry to bother you but I needed to ask a question and Mum isnt here and Da would just get mad or sad. I was playing with the girl from next door and I told her I want to be the slayer and she said you can't caus your black and your not a real family cause your all adopted. I know thats worng, cause Mum says that familys are made in the heart and not in the flesh. And I'm not worried aobut being diffrent colors cause Mum say God sees with an artists eyes and he paints with a rainbow palit. Thats why we are all diffrent. And she always says don't fight. That means your just trying to win and make someone else have your opinion and thats not right. Buy Carla said I can't be the slayer cause the slayer is only white. She says that someone like me whos only half white can't be the slayer is that true? Is that one of the rules? I have blond hair and my eyes are green. If the slayer has to blond then its ok, but I am half black. Can I still be a slayer? Da says only five more minutes.

That was beeeeYOOOOtiful big nasty bold tag of mine. Haven't done that for a while.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Irene grabs her rusty tag-killing daggers and skewers her tag to the floor next to Amberlynne's helpless body.
